New Guidance

On Friday July 11th, UBC closed the Benefit of the Bargain (BoB) application round of the state’s Broadband Infrastructure Grant (BIG) funded through the  Broadband, Equity, Access and Deployment (BEAD) program. This round is based on new guidance that was issued June 6th from the Department of Commerce, National Telecommunications (NTIA) in the form of a BEAD restructuring policy notice. The BoB grant is a modified full round of applications where all providers and all technologies are being considered. For more information, visit our website or email us at [email protected].

UBC Director Rebecca Dilg presented on two panels at the June Fiber Connect 2025, hosted by the Fiber Broadband Association, in Nashville, TN.

One panel focused on the advantages of fiber optics, the critical role it plays when a community must consider other options, such as fixed wireless, and how states ensure the chosen technologies to meet the needs of the communities.

The second panel addressed the implementation of awarded broadband projects, including navigating timelines, permitting, coordinating with stakeholders, and engaging with communities—all critical aspects of ensuring high-speed internet is available to all Utahns.

NGA Conference

Rebecca Dilg and Robert Busch from UBC recently attended the National Governors Association (NGA) Broadband Leaders Workshop in Columbus, OH, from June 9-11, 2025. This marked NGA’s fourth annual workshop, gathering governors’ broadband leaders, industry professionals, federal officials, and other stakeholders.

The event focused on crucial issues related to implementing federal and state programs, aiming to achieve key goals in broadband access, affordability, and adoption. Sessions covered a range of topics, including deploying various technologies, overcoming deployment barriers, understanding permitting requirements, and discussing revisions to the FCC map. It was a great opportunity to network and learn from successful initiatives in other states.

UBC Moving Agencies

With the passing of H.B. 542 Economic Development Amendments, on July 1st The Utah Broadband Center moved agencies from the Governor’s Office of Economic Opportunity (GOEO) to the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT). We are now located at the Calvin Rampton Complex in Taylorsville.
